Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.

An important representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
