The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the need for a distinct direction.
The president stated that the team is now refining the project with a revised focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
The news mirrors a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the entire message from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a clearer identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to consideration and reimagined the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our audience.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of the team. Following some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His management and background in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most well-known series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in greeting Ben next week. We are all looking forward to keep observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
David

Game Details and Concept
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling advancement on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, risks, and tests that change every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and pray your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."
The game has not yet received an official launch window or supported systems, but players can expect additional details as development continues.
