News has broken that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, considering the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.

The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
